A motorcyclist has died following a hit-and-run crash on the M11 near Stansted Airport.
The collision between a motorbike and "a small dark-coloured vehicle" happened at around 5am on Wednesday.
The vehicle failed to stop at the scene.
Police have confirmed that the motorcyclist, a man in his 60s, died at the scene.
The road remains shut southbound between junction 8 for Stansted and junction 7 for Harlow, but the northbound carriageway has reopened.
- What diversions are in place?
Drivers heading southbound are advised to follow the 'Hollow Square' diversion symbol. Exit the M11 at junction 8 onto the A120 west to Little Hadham and continue on the A120 until the roundabout with the A10.
Take the first exit onto the A10 southbound and continue on the A10 until the junction with the A414.
At the A10/A414 roundabout, take the first exit onto the A414 eastbound, continue on the A414 and rejoin the M11 at junction 7.
Motorists going north from the M25 should preferably use alternative routes such as the A1(M), or if you need to use the M11, take the M25 anti-clockwise and exit at J25. Follow the diamond symbol and take the A10 northbound.
Ryanair has issued a notice to customers on the way to Stansted caught up in the disruption.
