Man caught with machete in Essex after he's spotted walking towards Chelmsford city centre

A man was found walking around Chelmsford with a machete after a member of the public raised the alarm.

Police received concerned reports that a man had been seen with a "potential knife" and was making his way towards the city centre.

Police eventually found him in a car park and took the weapon off him.

It is not yet clear whether the man was arrested.

Police tweeted pictures of the machete, which was as long as an officer's arm.

In one of the images, the price tag is still visible.

Chief Inspector for Chelmsford and Maldon Gerry Parker said in a tweet that the discovery shows the importance of being able to use stop and search methods.
