Jailed: Bedford driver who 'used car as weapon'

A driver who "used his car as a weapon" to deliberately run over two men in Bedford has been jailed for four years.

Purdeep Panesar, from Bluebell Close in Bedford, reversed his BMW into the two men after they had gestured at his vehicle in May 2017.

He then mounted the pavement to try and hit them again before driving off.

The 27-year-old was found guilty of attempted GBH and dangerous driving and sentenced to four years.

Police said it was "sheer luck" that the victims only suffered minor injuries.

“Panesar deliberately used his car as a weapon. The two parties were not known to one another and it is a real concern that Panesar would resort to this level of violence in the heat of the moment.

“Whilst this was not pre-meditated, this sort of action cannot be tolerated and I hope that Panesar reflects on his actions while he is behind bars.”
