Firefighters have tackled a large fire next to Southend United's football stadium.
In a statement, the Shrimpers confirmed that the fire broke out in a storage area in Victoria Avenue close to their Roots Hall home just after 5.20pm on Tuesday evening.
A spokesperson from Essex Fire and Rescue Service said that 10 pallets of artificial grass were on fire when they arrived.
Thick plumes of smoke could be seen above the town following the blaze, but it's not thought that anyone was injured.
The main fire was put out by 8pm.
"The main fire is now out and crews will remain onsite into the night to coordinate the turning over of the pallets and extinguishing smouldering hotspots," an Essex Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said.
"An investigation into the cause of the fire will take place tomorrow."
