Royal Mail has revealed that the first-ever parcel postboxes will be rolled out across the country following a successful trial in Northampton.
The company has announced that 1,400 new postboxes will be installed in the UK - including in locations such as Peterborough, Norwich and Chelmsford.
The rollout follows the trial of 30 postboxes in Northampton and Leicester in 2018.
Once the new boxes are in place, customers will be able to send parcels in the same way that they currently send letters, provided that postage has been pre-paid.
Royal Mail said that they will be converting existing meter boxes.
According to the company, the move will be the first major change of use for the postbox since they were first introduced in the 1800s.
