Alice Barnes is celebrating after becoming a double national cycling champion.

The 23-year-old from Northamptonshire completed her double during the women’s road race – 83.5 miles around the Norfolk countryside on Sunday.

The Canyon SRAM rider had already won the time trial on Thursday - wresting it away from reigning champ and big sister Hannah - at the start of the four day Great British Festival of Cycling.

She's the first woman to complete the feat since Norwich cyclist Emma Pooley achieved the double in 2010.

Speaking after the race to British Cycling, he admitted her success hadn't quite sunk in.

“I knew I was coming into this with quite good form. My time trial kind of shocked me but to get both (titles) – I can’t really believe it yet.

“I rode the last two days and I’ve done a couple of stage races already this year so I think I recover quite well from those. I just fuelled well and went into today thinking ‘just go for it’.
