A blood bank for pets is appealing for more donations from dogs.

Vets around the country use blood provided by the Pet Blood Bank charity to help give life-saving treatment to dogs.

Similar to the human blood service, dog owners kindly bring along their animals to give blood.

There's currently a shortage of negative blood type dogs donating.

The breeds most likely to have a negative blood type are:

  • Dobermann
  • Flat coat retriever
  • Greyhound
  • Lurcher
  • Pointer
  • German shepherd
