A man has thanked a volunteer Essex police officer for taking his wife to a relative's funeral after their car broke down.

SC Dan Cooper stepped in when the couple's car broke down on a busy road. Before the officer arrived, the pair were unable to move the vehicle from a live lane for it could be recovered.

SC Dan Cooper, a volunteer police officer the Essex Police Road Policing Unit, closed a section of the road to divert traffic while the vehicle was being fixed.

The husband and wife were on their way to the funeral of a close relative and Dan offered to take them to the church. While the driver went to the garage to get the car repaired, Dan took the woman to the service.

“Throughout the whole unfortunate incident, the service of SC Dan Cooper was first class."
