A man was stabbed on West Street, Colchester shortly before midnight on 9 September.
Essex Police officers were called at around 11.30pm. It was reported that the victim, a man in his twenties, was involved in an altercation with a man described as black, in his 20s, around 5ft 10ins tall, of a medium build and wearing a black tracksuit. He was seen to run off towards the Southway underpass.
The victim was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He is now considered to be stable but in critical condition.
A police cordon is in place as enquires continue. Officers are appealing for witnesses.
