Two men have been sentenced after a shooting in Norwich in June last year.

A 19 year old man from London was shot in the back in parkland near Adelaide Street on 27 June 2018. It led to an extensive police investigation including fingertip searches at the scene, house to house enquiries, CCTV and forensic reviews. Witnesses had described hearing an argument before seeing a small white car drive away from the scene.

On Tuesday 2 July, Kallum Eastall, 18, and Jake Brittain, 26, admitted possession of a firearm with intent to commit robbery, possession of an offensive weapon and possession of a knife. The men, both of no fixed address, had been charged with attempted murder which they denied and instead pleaded guilty to the lesser charges which the prosecution accepted.

The men accepted the circumstances of the incident and that a man had been shot, but neither admitted to firing the weapon. Kallum Eastall was sentenced to 13 years. Jake Brittain was sentenced to 14 years

"This type of serious violence, particularly involving guns, is extremely rare for Norwich and Norfolk, so the local community were understandably shocked by what had happened so close by. With both defendants admitting to being part of the assault, the prison sentences Eastall and Brittain are facing will mean they won’t pose a threat to the community for a long while.”

No further action was taken against two other people arrested in connection with the incident.
