Climate change activists have staged a 'die-in' to highlight Norwich's illegal levels of air pollution.

Dozens of Extinction Rebellion protestors demonstrated against plans to develop Anglia Square, which include a new 1500 space car park.

The developers say it would regenerate the area - and the council insists it's working to improve air quality - but campaigners say more must be done.

"Air pollution is already an emergency that claims lives in Norwich, and it would be scandalous if the redevelopment of Anglia Square contributed to worsening that situation."

Campaigners have called for immediate action, including extending a ban on idling vehicles, which currently only applies on Castle Meadow.

They also want greater investment in public transport and a revision of planning policies to ensure that new developments will not contribute to air pollution.

The Green Party says it's planning Norwich's first 'Car Free Day' on September 22 - but the city council has refused to officially close any roads.
