Thousands pound the streets for the Great East Run

Thousands of runners have pounded the streets of Ipswich in the annual Great East Run.

Around 4,000 runners took on the challenge of the 13.1 mile course that weaved it's way through the town centre, along the waterfront, past the Orwell Bridge and into the Shotley Peninsula.

40 runners were attempting their first ever half marathon as part of the Simplyhealth Great East Run Outreach Programme.

The initiative is part of Suffolk County Council's quest to become the most active county in the UK and has been successfully carried out at previous events in 2017 and 2018.
