A 21-year-old has been banned from driving for a year after trying to outrun the police on the A14 near Bury St Edmunds.

In August, Tommy McDonagh refused to stop for officers and made several dangerous attempts to avoid capture, including travelling at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour. He narrowly missed other cars on the dual carriageway before colliding with a HGV. McDonagh was given a suspended prison sentence.

"I witnessed Tommy McDonagh’s reckless actions with my own eyes and to drive in the manner he did and at the speeds he reached, it is a miracle that no one was seriously injured."

Inspector Gary Miller, Roads and Armed Policing Team

McDonagh appeared at Ipswich Crown Court on 24 September where he was given a 14-month prison sentence, suspended for two years.
