Data released shows the number of knife crimes the police recorded in the year up to June 2019.

Bedfordshire saw the highest rise in knife crime, not only regionally, but nationally. Suffolk was the second-highest, closely followed by Dyfed-Powys in Wales. Cambridgeshire pipped Chesire to the post to have the biggest decrease in England and Wales.

Figures give the number of offences from July 2017 to June 2018, the number of offences from July 2018 to June 2019, and the percentage change.

This list for the East of England is ranked according to the biggest percentage increase on the previous 12 months.

  • 1. Bedfordshire: 438 to 688, up 57%
  • 2. Suffolk: 158 to 230, up 46%
  • 10. Northamptonshire: 451 to 565, up 25%
  • 12. Norfolk: 230 to 272, up 18%
  • 17. Hertfordshire: 523 to 608, up 16%
  • 39. Essex: 742 to 709, down 4%
  • 43. Cambridgeshire: 516 to 402, down 22%
