For the first time in five years a real Christmas tree has been installed in Peterborough's Cathedral Square.
The 40 foot Spruce came from the Elveden estate near Thetford.
It replaces the artificial tree which has been used since 2014
Peterborough City Council says it decided to use a real tree because of public demand.
We are delighted to have helped get a real tree back into the heart of the city. The switch-on will be the first opportunity to see it all lit up, which will be a spectacular sight and sure to get everyone into the festive spirit!"
However the real tree has sparked a mixed reaction on Social Media with some criticising it as too small
I think they have chosen a small tree on purpose to prove a point.Make everyone moan and next year that basket thing will be back out. They used to be gorgeous years ago. Maybe it will look different once its decorated.
It is better already than the eyesore of the last few years
Peterborough...."Lets save the planet"... also Peterborough "lets cut down a 40ft tree, to satisfy us for 2 months" Why not grow a real one, so that every year we can decorate it, and it gets bigger every year without having to cut it down?
About time, better then the tin foil one, maybe could have been a bit bigger, but pleased we have at last got a real tree
It’s lovely to have a real tree but it’s a bit small
Is it me or is it tiny? I preferred last years which was on a much grander scale.
So much more inclined to go to down, I avoided the other monstrosity due to it killing my Christmas spirit
