Man arrested after double stabbing in early hours of New Year's Day

A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after two women were stabbed at a house in Felixstowe.

Police were called to the property on Mill Lane at around 2am on Wednesday, 1 January.

A 33-year-old woman remains in Ipswich Hospital in a serious but stable condition after being stabbed in the stomach.

A 44-year-old woman was treated for a stab wound to the shoulder, but has now been released.

The 34-year-old man remains in custody at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre, according to Suffolk Police.

Local MP Therese Coffey said the incident was "shocking":

A Suffolk Police statement said: "A cordon remains in place at the property and police are conducting reassurance patrols in the area.

"The investigation is still at an early stage but police are confident that the parties involved are known to each other with no wider threat to the community.

"Police are appealing for witnesses and anyone who saw any suspicious activity should contact Ipswich CID, quoting crime reference 37/32/20."
