Stevenage boss Graham Westley had to abandon his car and take a five-mile jog to the stadium after he was caught up in traffic ahead of Boro's League Two clash against Port Vale on Saturday.

Westley, who recently returned to the club for a fourth spell in charge, took the drastic action as a result of heavy congestion in nearby Welwyn.

That meant he was forced to run to the Lamex Stadium in order to make it for kick-off, but his efforts went unrewarded as he watched his team lose 1-0 to drop to the foot of the table.

Boro gave away a late penalty which was duly dispatched by striker Tom Pope.

It means Stevenage have only won two games all season and now trail second-bottom Morecambe by a point after they picked up a draw against Colchester United.
