Firefighters from across Suffolk and Essex are at the scene of a major fire in Ipswich.
Crews were called to the former Tolly Cobbold Brewery on Ipswich waterfront just before half past four this evening.
Suffolk Fire Service say they expect to be on the scene through the night. Suffolk Police have urged drivers to avoid the area close to the scene of the fire.
Landseer Road and Handy Hill Lane have been closed.
The building hasn’t been used as a brewery since 2002 – and four years ago plans were unveiled to transform the building into 220 apartments and a 300 seat auditorium.
This evening’s fire spread across upper floors of the building. It is currently under control but the fire service say they expect to be there through the night.
The cause isn’t yet known.
During the evening 20 crews from Suffolk and Essex helped in the firefighting operation, although that has now been scaled back.
