A man has been charged in connection with the murder of a man in Colchester more than 20 years ago.

The 73-year-old has been charged with the murder of 30-year-old Grant Byrom on 25 February. It's alleged to have happened in Forest Road, Colchester on Boxing Day 1998.

Mr Byrom suffered a fatal stab wound to the chest and was rushed to hospital where he later died of his injuries.

A man will appear at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday 26 February, to face a charge of murder.

In 2014, Essex Police renewed its appeal for information. They offered a £2,000 to help trace a man suspected of the killing, and said: "Grant's family were devastated by his death and each year there are constant reminders at family events he is missing from.

"He would have been so proud to become a grandfather and be at his grandson's first birthday party...but for nearly 16 years the family has had to grow up without him.
