Hospitals have started introducing free car parking for staff during the coronavirus crisis.

Among them Hinchingbrooke in Huntingdon, Peterborough City and the West Suffolk in Bury St Edmunds. It comes as more than 400 thousand people nationwide have signed a petition calling on the government to abolish fines and car parking charges for NHS employees using staff car parks during the pandemic.

“Given the unprecedented circumstances our staff are currently working in, we felt it was only right to waiver the car parking charges for all staff as well as our patients and visitors."

Caroline Walker, chief executive, North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust

The Chief Executive for the West Suffolk Hospital tweeted he too had lifted charges.
