Visiting a sick person in hospital can be a great comfort for the patient but during the coronavirus pandemic, a ban on visitors may help save lives.
Addenbrookes Hospital contacted ITV Anglia to help explain to the public the reasons why it, along with many other hospitals in our region, had taken the difficult decision to stop all visitors from entering.
The only exemptions will be one parent allowed to stay with a child, one carer allowed to be with someone with educational or other needs, one birthing partner at the Rosie maternity unit and one relative allowed with a patient nearing the end of their life.
The hospital says it will continue monitoring the situation locally and nationally and will resume visiting as soon as possible.
