The NHS has reported a further 35 patients dying with Covid-19 in the Anglia region with nearly a third of them at a single hospital in Northampton.

Northampton General Hospital has seen 11 deaths in the past four days and in total 237 patients have lost their lives with coronavirus since the start of the pandemic. The other major hospital in Northamptonshire, Kettering General, also reported a further four deaths with the patients dying between 23rd and 27th May.

There has been a gradual decline in the number of deaths reported by the NHS each day across the Anglia region but there are signs that the downward trend has stalled.

The average number of deaths reported each day over the past week has been 29 - the same as the figure for the previous week. The NHS reported 31 deaths in the region on Thursday and 42 on Wednesday.

In total, 3,614 patients have died with Covid-19 in hospitals in the Anglia region.

When deaths in other settings like care homes, hospices and the community are included, the total rises to more than 5,100 people dying in the region with the illness, either confirmed by a positive test or included on the death certificate.
