A further 24 patients have died with Covid-19 in hospitals across the Anglia region taking the total, since the start of the pandemic, to 3,638.

The daily total is the lowest for three days and lower than the 30 deaths reported in the region last Saturday.

A total of 178 patients died in the Anglia region in the week ending 24th April compared to 208 deaths in the previous week.

When deaths in other settings like care homes, hospices and the community are included, the total rises to more than 5,100 people dying in the region with the illness, either confirmed by a positive test or included on the death certificate.

Kettering General Hospital in Northamptonshire reported a further four patients had died with coronavirus on 27th/28th May. The total there is now 177.

The community hospital in Felixstowe in Suffolk reported its first death. The unit is part of the East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Trust which also runs Ipswich, Aldeburgh and Colchester hospitals. The Trust has seen a total of 331 patients dying with Covid-19 since the start of the outbreak.

A further four patients died at the Luton & Dunstable hospital on 25th May.
