Narrow escape for hedgehog mum and babies

A hedgehog mum and her four babies found nesting in household rubbish outside a house in Chelmsford have been rescued by the RSPCA just before bin day.

RSPCA Inspector Jessica Dayes takes up the story

“I was expecting to see just one hedgehog, but when I lifted the edge of the deflated paddling pool, the prickly Mum was suckling four small babies! That’s probably why she was staying so still.

The RSPCA say that litter is one of the biggest hazards wildlife faces today - and it's why they are calling on the public to take extra care to dispose of their rubbish responsibly so animals don't get hurt.
