Cambridge City Council have organised for their annual Strawberry Fair to be broadcast on community radio this year.

The first Saturday in June usually kicks off the free arts and music festival that takes place in Midsummer Common.

It could not safely be held this year due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

And so instead of a large public gathering, the organisers are asking people to create their own festival at home today.

The community radio station, Cambridge 105, has said they will host performances and interviews with musicians and artists who were scheduled to appear at the event.

“Strawberry Fair is one of the highlights of my summer, and it’s such a shame that we won’t be there in person.

Cllr Anna Smith, Cambridge City Council

Mark McGivern, Chair of Strawberry Fair, said:

“Strawberry Fair 2020 is not happening on Midsummer Common this year but, thanks to Cambridge 105, people can get a taste of it through their radio or digital device of choice. Cambridge 105 Radio are presenting a day of programmes from 11am showcasing all the different stages and areas that people could usually enjoy at Strawberry Fair.”
