As businesses of all types get used to social distancing regulations as they reopen, one sector with particular challenges is the cinema and theatre industry.

Despite the pressures caused by the pandemic, one independent cinema in Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk is bucking the trend and is preparing to effectively double in size by opening a brand new 180-seater screen.

The Abbeygate Cinema is getting ready to open its doors to their new Premier Screen on Friday 31 July following months of development work and is even recruiting staff despite the challenging coronavirus climate.

The new auditorium is an addition to the cinema in Hatter Street which currently boasts two screens. It has traditional theatrical curtains, a vast curved screen with a state-of-the art 4K laser projector and full surround sound.
