Passenger numbers fall at Stansted

Stansted Airport has seen a drop in passenger numbers.

The Essex Airport saw numbers drop by 5.2% in August compared with the same month last year.

The reduction in people using the airport has been blamed on people staying home to watch the Olympics.

Cargo traffic has seen a boost and is up by 13.9%.

Airport applies to control airspace

London Southend Airport's new terminal

London Southend Airport is applying for permission to control airspace around the runway.

It recently obtained a temporary right to control aircraft operating in the area during the Olympics.

Controlled airspace requires all aircraft in the vicinity to communicate with air traffic controllers.

Stansted Airport has welcomed its first ever passenger flight from China.

A China Southern Airlines A330 aircraft brought more than 200 VIPs and performers from Beijing for a London 2012 Olympic cultural event.

The aircraft was greeted by fire trucks which provided a water salute.
