A 28-year-old who killed another man by kicking him in the side of the head has been jailed for nine years.
Lloyd Deacon ruptured a blood vessel in Gary Bassett’s brain when he attacked him in Market Pavement, Basildon last July.
The victim was with a friend when Mr Bassett approached and started being aggressive. Deacon then kicked him in the head, knocking him unconscious and leaving irreparable damage.
Gary Bassett passed away in hospital two days later. Mr Deacon was found guilty of manslaughter at Chelmsford Crown Court.
This has been a devastating and extremely difficult time for Mr Bassett’s loved-ones.
This case serves as a stark reminder that any act of violence can have the most tragic of consequences.
Deacon could have left the argument and walked away.Instead he now faces a significant number of years behind bars and will have to live with the tragic consequences of his actions for the rest of his life.
A teenager has suffered head injuries after being hit with a bat at a leisure park in Basildon.
Police were called to reports of a fight between a large group of people in the car park at the Festival Leisure Park, around 3.30am this morning (27 August).
A 19-year-old man suffered head injuries and has been taken to hospital.
A 30 year-old man from London has been arrested in connection with a separate assault during the same incident.
He has been arrested on suspicion of assault and affray and is currently in police custody.
Police in Essex have released an efit image after a man indecently exposed himself to a woman in Pitsea near Basildon.
The incident took place in Buckerills at about 10.15pm on 31 July. The victim, a 21-year-old woman, reported seeing the same man in High Road on 2 August and Steeplehall on 9 August.
The man was described as aged in his 30s, about 5ft 8ins tall and of stocky, muscular build. He had short brown hair and was clean shaven.

A man in his 40s is in a life threatening condition in hospital after he was attacked in Basildon.
The victim was kicked in the head near Market Pavement around 7 o'clock on Friday 28th July.
The suspect, who's described as white and between 20 and 30 years old then left the scene. He was said to have mousey brown hair, and was wearing a grey t-shirt and jeans
Detectives are appealing for anyone with information to come forward, as they believe there were a number of witnesses near the immediate area at the time.

Independent candidate Kerry Smith has been re-elected in Basildon Westley Heights in the first result of the night in this year's Local Elections.
Smith won the same seat as a Ukip councillor in 2013, but left the party a year later.
He was the clear winner in this year's count, registering 3,341 votes compared to his nearest challenger Andrew Schrader from the Conservatives who earned 1,329 votes.
Turnout in Westley Heights was 33.62%.
