Whittlesey Washes to be protected from flooding

It was a growing tide of public opinion which even the flood defences on the Whittlesey Washes would have struggled to contain.

Angry that their community may be left without adequate protection campaigners say they've pursuaded the Environment Agency to do a u-turn on it's plans for the future maintenance of the banks that protect the Washes from flooding.

The Government will now fund the £21m pound cost of repairing the banks - more than four times the amount which had previously been proposed.
