Council to elect new leader

Norfolk County Council will hold a meeting today to agree its new leader. Councillor Bill Borrett is almost certain to take up the post after being voted in as Chairman of the ruling Tory group.

Mr Borrett, who represents Elmham and Mattishall, defeated Graham Plant in a vote at County Hall.

He has been acting leader of the council since Derrick Murphy resigned last month. At a hearing Mr Murphy was cleared of six counts of breaching the code of conduct. However on one count he was found to have a committed a breach by bringing his office into disrepute.
