Carswell won't stand as Ukip leader and calls for party to change its campaign style

The Essex MP Douglas Carswell has ruled out standing for the leadership of Ukip after the resignation of the current leader Nigel Farage.

As a parting shot to his former leader, the Clacton MP called for a change to the "tone and style" asking for the party to reinvent itself as a radical campaigner for change.
