Husband admits smothering his wife in Cambridge
A husband has admitted smothering his wife at their home in Cambridge - after initially refusing to enter a plea at court.
Muhammad Malik, 36, contacted police on November 22 saying he had attacked his wife.
Police and paramedics attended the property in Perne Road, Cambridge, and 32-year-old Asia Tufail was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital but later died. A post mortem examination found she died of asphyxia.
Malik, of Perne Road, was arrested at the scene.
Today, he appeared in court charged with the mother-of-two's murder but repeatedly refused to enter a plea. He later admitted the lesser charge of manslaughter, on the grounds of diminished responsibility.
