Charlie Mulryan who has been jailed for attacking a woman in Bedford

A man from Cambridgeshire has been jailed after he assaulted a woman he met on a dating website.

Charlie Mulryan, 33 of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and criminal damage.

A short time after arriving at a house in Bedford he became agitated.

The victim and her friend tried to calm him down but were still concerned by his behaviour and tried to coax him out of the house.

Mulryan then struck the victim several times inflicting serious injuries and causing her to lose consciousness.

The victim’s friend managed to get out of the house and called police. Mulryan then damaged two nearby vehicles.

When police and ambulance staff arrived at the scene, he again became aggressive and assaulted a police officer.

Investigation Officer Gary Hales said:

This attack left the victim with potentially life long issues with her eye as a result, and she has been extremely brave in coming forward. This kind of behaviour is unacceptable and I hope that by securing this sentence we have secured some justice for her.
