Chainsaw gang steal ATM from Writtle co-op

Raiders using crowbars and a chainsaw have managed to steal an ATM from a shop in Writtle, near Chelmsford in Essex.

Police were called at around 11.30pm with reports that the cashpoint had been removed from a Co-op store in Bridge Street.

Witnesses reported seeing four men, wearing crash helmets, masks and tracksuits outside the shop. They were carrying a crowbar and chainsaw. Loud banging was heard and extensive damage was caused to the shop’s shutter.

The men were reported to have left the scene at speed in a Ford Focus, towards Chelmsford. A grey Ford Transit van was left at the scene.
