Absconded prisoner recaptured after tip off from a member of the public

A 56-year-old man serving a life sentence for murder, who was reported missing from Hollesley Bay prison, has been recaptured in Suffolk.

William Kerr failed to return to a rendezvous point in Ipswich during the afternoon of Friday 1 December.

A member of the public who had seen Kerr’s photograph contacted police to report seeing him in Ipswich town centre last night (Friday 1st Dec).

Kerr was arrested and brought to Martlesham Police Investigation Centre pending his transfer back to the prison system.
