Former football coach Eric Cooper has been cleared of sexually abusing a young player

A former football coach has been cleared of sexually abusing a young player.

Eric Cooper, 82, was found not guilty of two counts of indecently assaulting a boy under the age of 14 following a six-day trial at Cambridge Crown Court.

Jurors took two and a half hours to reach their verdict.

Cooper from Soham, was a coach in Cambridgeshire. He had played for Soham United and was also involved with Ely Crusaders.

He was arrested in January as part of an investigation into abuse in football. The allegations had related to the late 1960s.
