Police are hunting a man following the attempted rape of a woman in Witham.

The woman, in her 20s, was walking along an alleyway near Bramble Road at 8:45 on Wednesday 3 January. A stranger grabbed her from behind and physically assaulted her. She managed to fight the man off and run away.

We want to hear from anyone who was near the location of the incident this morning, or who since then believes they may have seen the suspect.

The woman has been subjected to an awful ordeal today, and is being supported by specially trained officers.

Please get in touch with us immediately if you have information which can help our enquiries.

We have officers in the area conducting house to house enquiries, and would like to offer reassurance that this is being treated as an isolated incident.
