The Conservative MP Dan Poulter says he's pleased but unsurprised that he's finally been cleared by his party's disciplinary committee of behaving inappropriately towards female colleagues.

The MP for Central Suffolk and North Ipswich had always denied claims he had breached his party's code of conduct. But he says the strain of the five month investigation has taken a toll on his health.

"I am pleased although entirely unsurprised that, after five months, I have finally been exonerated of any misconduct or inappropriate behaviour. The allegations brought against me were false and scurrilous."

Dr Poulter said his lawyers are pursuing legal action against the Sunday Times over the allegations made against him.
