Network rail says a level crossing where a train hit a car in Cambridgeshire yesterday evening was working properly.

A woman, thought to be the driver of the car, was taken to hospital following the crash at Waterbeach at around 5.40pm on Thursday, March 29. Her injuries are not thought to be serious.

A spokesman for Network Rail confirmed the crossing lights had been flashing, the barriers had been lowering and "there was no fault with the crossing at the time of the incident".

An investigation by British Transport Police into how the car came to be on the crossing is ongoing.
