Birthday treat ended in tragedy

The Mustang that crashed killing farmer Benjamin Marshall

An inquest has heard that a pensioner killed when a vintage plane crashed on the Norfolk/Suffolk border had been on a flight bought for him by his children for his 85th birthday.

The Mustang crashed next to Hardwick Airfield, near Bungay, in 2016 - killing retired farmer Benjamin John Marshall.

His three sons described seeing a 'fireball' as the plane hit an oak tree. Pilot Maurice Hammond survived but suffered a broken neck.
