Four men are still being questioned in connection with the murder of a man in Chelmsford.

Police were called to Cromar Way in the city just before 1am and found a man in his 40s who was severely injured. He died a short while later in hospital.

Three men, aged 40, 53, and 59, and a 53-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder.

The 53-year-old man was also arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A drugs. All remain in police custody.

An alleyway near Meteor Way, which is close to Essex County Cricket Club, will remain closed while investigations continue.

DCI Martin Pasmore, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate said:

“Enquiries so far indicate that this was a targeted, drugs-related incident. We also remain open minded to the possibility that there are other individuals who have not yet been spoken to, who may have been involved in events which led to this tragic incident. The victim’s family are being supported by specialist officers, and our thoughts and condolences are with them at this most difficult of times."
