The Torch has a busy day in the region today, starting in York and eventually arriving in Carlisle, travelling a great distance across the North East and Cumbria - another busy and exciting day for all of the Torchbearers. Wednesday 20th June
York - Starting at Duncombe Place, at 8:05am, the torch veers right onto High Petergate, before making a left turn onto St Leonard's Place (A19). The torch then travels along Museum Street (A1036), turning onto Leeman Road, before embarking upon another leg of the journey (on board a train) at the National Railway Museum, for a journey of approximately 40 minutes, to Thirsk.
Thirsk - Arriving into the train station at 9:23am, the torch travels down to Station Road (A61), turning left onto Westgate (again A61), before heading onto Market Place (B1448), continuing down to Kirkgate, before arriving on Norby Front Street (just above Percy Drive).
Northallerton - After a travel in the Vehicle Convoy, the torch reaches Northallerton by 10:14am, arriving onto Thirsk Road (by St James Drive), before taking the third exit from the roundabout, onto Friargate Street (A167), then onto the High Street, bearing round the roundabout, onto South Parade (A167). The torch then takes the third exit (continuing on the A167) onto Boroughbridge Road, making a right turn onto Lees Lane.
Aiskew - Arriving here at 11:04am, the torch will head along the A684 from Bedale Road, onto Stanley Terrace.
Bedale - Continuing its journey from Aiskew, the torch is scheduled to run into Bedale at 11:15am, arriving on Bridge Street (A684), before turning right onto Market Place, stopping at Bedale Golf Club.
Aysgarth Falls - Another vehicle travel gets the torch to Aysgarth Falls for 12:00pm, where the torch starts on Church Bank and will go up to Aysgarth Falls, before the flame is returned to the torch carrying vehicle.
Leyburn - The Torch arrives in Leyburn at 12:51pm, on the High Street (near A684 (Railway Street), the runner taking the torch along onto Richmond Road, before another short journey in the Torch Vehicle.
Richmond - Starting at the junction of Reeth Road and Coronation Street at 1:18pm, the torch will move down the A6108, turning right onto Cravengate, then left onto Newbiggin, before turning right onto Finkle Street. From Finkle Street, the torch will move down Market Place, then head along to Trinity Church Square arriving at Castle Wynd. It'll then move along Kings Street, head down Queens Road, continuing onto Pottergate (A1068) before taking the second exit at the roundabout onto Darlington Road (A6108), before arriving at Richmond School, where the torch ends its leg in Richmond.
Barnard Castle - Estimated to arrive in Barnard Castle at 3:14pm, the torch will move down Westwick Road (from just outside Barnard Castle Prep. School), onto Newgate before turning right onto Horse Market (A67), continuing onto Bridge Gate (A67), heading right onto The Sills (A67), before turning left onto Bowes Road (up to Dark Lane). The torch then has another journey in the Torch Vehicle to Brough.
Brough - After a journey from Barnard Castle, the torch will at 4:03pm travel down Upper Street (B6276), onto New Road, ending its journey in Brough just near the A66.
Appleby - The torch will arrive at 4:19pm at The Bondgate (B6542), heading onto The Sands, continuing onto Battlebrow, before stopping just above the turn for Long Marton Road.
Penrith - Starting just off the roundabout, on the A6 at 4:55pm, the torch is scheduled to travel down Bridge Lane, before turning left onto Victoria Road. The runner will then continue down Southend Road, turning down Victoria Road, before heading down King Street, then onto Devonshire Street, to Middlegate, onto Duke Street, then finishing at Scotland Road (A6).
*Carlisle *- The torch will arrive here at 6:07pm, starting on Warwick Road (A69) from just above Montgomery Way. The torch will travel down Victoria Place, turning left onto Spencer Street (A6), before making a right turn onto Warwick Road (A6). It will then turn left onto The Crescent, heading onto English Street, before making its way onto Finkle Street. From Finkle Street, the torch will head down onto Fisher Street, before turning left onto Market Street, it will then go onto West Town Street, then Dacre Road, finally arriving at the Evening Celebration at Bitts Park.
Olympic Weather Update
After a chilly start, there'll be some mist and fog in places, lifting as soon as the sunshine gets to work, making for a quite warm day, with the risk of some patchy cloud later in the day, towards the north of the region. Otherwise, a good day to see the torch - with highs of around nineteen to twenty degrees expected.
