It is one of Cumbria's oldest and best known theatres. Built in 1904, Workington's Carnegie Theatre was starting to show its age... but is now fit for the 21st century following a £220,000 refurbishment.

The theatre has had a massive revamp with improvements including new flooring and seating, new lighting, and considerable repairs to the roof and external building.

There's now seating in place to hold 325 people and can accommodate up to 500 people for a concert.

The project was funded by Allerdale Borough Council and The Coalfields Regeneration Trust.

The council has now announced that it will invest a further £150,000 to help improve the bar area.

The first act to appear on stage after the re-opening is Livewire AC/DC on 7th September.
