An 81-year-old man from South Cumbria has been reunited with a VE day school project from 1945.

Peter Cannon went to Castle Street School in Kendal but had no idea the magazine had been preserved.

It was restored by archivist Margaret Owen, and can now be found in Kendal Archive Centre.

Until she tracked Peter down, she'd never met any of the contributors.

The magazine includes children's drawings of celebratory bunting, as well as bonfires with Swastikas on top.

Peter was eleven when he took part in the project:

I was a bit surprised because I don't remember anything about it at all but obviously I must have contributed because my signature's there!"
