An experience offering a glimpse into the animal kingdom at night is being offered by a company from Castle Douglas.

Nocturnal wildlife tours are thought to be the first of their kind in the UK.

The tour takes place over natures reserves around Castle Douglas, both on foot and in a specially adapted truck fitted with night vision cameras.

Everyone on the tour is given their own thermal imaging camera on which they can record their sightings.

On the most recent tour, animals such as Roe deer, hedgehogs and badgers were spotted.

It's a really unique experience. The only chance we every really get to see wildlife at night is through watching television programmes.

I was astounded the first time we went out by how many different species of wildlife were in one field alone.

We have an abundance of wildlife here in Dumfries and Galloway and it's fascinating to see what goes on after dark."
