Stuart Lancaster's England may have it all to do to take their World Cup campaign any further... but the nation's women are already world champions, having claimed the crown in France in 2013.

At the forefront of English women's rugby is Lucy Meadley, captain of Carlisle Cougars.

She was recently voted the best player in England, having led her team to two seasons undefeated, and scoring fourteen tries last season.

I think, personally, it was a great honour to receive it and as a county it just shows how far we have come in the last couple of seasons, being undefeated for two years.

It is just great, rugby has grown, there are now three women's teams in Cumbria playing in the league.

So yeah hopefully it will just encourage more people to come and play."

Carlisle Cougars are looking to set up a junior team if they can get enough girls interested in taking up the sport.

Lucy and the rest of the team are hoping the World Cup will inspire more girls to decide that this is the sport for them, and pull on some boots for the first time.
