Junior doctors in Cumbria are set to take part in a 24-hour strike as part of a national protest over pay and conditions.

It's not known yet how many doctors will walkout but NHS bosses say contingency plans are in place to ensure as little disruption as possible.

The strike is due to get underway at 8am today. The following number of junior doctors work at these sites across Cumbria.

  • 92 Cumberland Infirmary
  • 9 West Cumberland Hospital
  • 51 Furness General Hospital
  • 20 Cumbria Partnership Foundation Trust

“All of the NHS organisations across Cumbria have robust plans in place to cope with the strike. Patient safety is always the number one priority and this has been the focus of their planning.

“We would like to thank all staff for working to ensure that services face as little disruption as possible.

“The public can help the NHS by thinking carefully before using NHS services. We would urge people to make use of pharmacists, www.nhs.uk and NHS 111, if appropriate – they can all provide helpful advice.”

– Dr David Rogers, Medical Director for NHS Cumbria Clinical Commissioning Group
