A traffic officer has been killed and another was seriously injured in a crash as they responded to an incident in Cumbria.
Adam Gibb, 51, from Penrith, suffered fatal injuries and another officer, who has not been named, was airlifted to the James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough in a very serious condition.
The Highways England officers had been responding to an incident on the southbound M6 between junctions 38 and 37 near Tebay Services when they were struck by a vehicle veering off the main carriageway just after midday on Sunday, February 21.
Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin said: "This was a tragic incident.
"My thoughts are with the family, friends and colleagues of Adam Gibb who lost his life yesterday, and his colleague who suffered serious injuries, in Cumbria while doing their jobs."
