Cricket stars past and present are backing Ben Stokes to bounce back from his part in England's last-gasp World Twenty20 final defeat.

Former teammates and illustrious names from the game have taken to social media to send their words of support to the Cockermouth all-rounder who was hit for four successive sixes in the final over of yesterday's World Twenty20 final against the West Indies.

Going into the final over, England were favourites to lift the trophy with the West Indies needing 19 runs to win. But West Indies batsman Carlos Brathwaite blasted his side to victory by bludgeoning Stokes' first four deliveries to the boundary for six.

Former England batsman Kevin Pietersen said what happened to Stokes was just a hiccup and that he was still 'a star' while ex-England captain Michael Vaughan praised his courage for bowling the final over in such a high pressure situation.

South Africa's former opening batsman Herschelle Gibbs believes Stokes will still go on to be a 'great of the game' and Pakistan international Saeed Ajmal said he 'feels for' him.

Meanwhile, Stokes himself says he's been 'overwhelmed' by the support he's received.
