Appleby flood defence wall completed
Workers have finished building a new flood defence wall near Appleby swimming pool.
The Environment Agency has replaced 23 demountable steel gates, which previously ran across the swimming pool car park, with a permanent flood defence wall.
Work to repair the damaged river retaining wall at the end of Holme Street in the town will begin once the Horse Fair in mid-June has finished.
A report into why Appleby suffered so badly during the floods will be published by Cumbria County Council and the Environment Agency on 27 June.
